Re: M_Boats: tiller length
Not being a racer one of the first things I did after buying Motu iti was remove the traveler and rig an end boom main sheet to the transom just to have more cockpit room. I have an Ida tiller and never even checked the length, no problem. Eldor M17 Motu iti **************The Average US Credit Score is 692. See Yours in Just 2 Easy Steps! Hopefully in Anacortes I can check out how you did that without interfering with the split backstay. Tom M17 Scintilla ----- Original Message ----- From: <eisenee@aol.com> To: <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Sunday, May 10, 2009 2:58 PM Subject: Re: M_Boats: tiller length

Well after whacking the crap out of my temples for the umpteenth time on those dogs that are used to tighten up the round port lights, I managed a solution. I slit a tennis ball just big enough to slip over the dog and ....voila! OK, lime green tennis balls inside the cabing does a little to take away the alure, but if you pass out from pain......... This got me to thinking about another anoyance (not nearly as painful). I've been wiring a masthead/deck light and my coax cable for the VFH antenna all of which run down the inside of the mast. I've heard quite a bit about the annoying sound they can make at anchor. So I'm thinking about running them throug a series of tennis balls maybe every two feel up through the mast. Any thoughts?? Why not just place electrical ties around the wire at sticking out in different directions about ever two feet. The ties left long should hold the wire in the center of the mast avoiding contact with the metal. About three to four ties every two feet should do the trick. As David already suggested, I used the tie wrap approach. Put in a tie wrap every couple of feet but leave the end long enough to brace against the mast by a couple of inches. Vary the direction of each one and you get a light weight spacing system that does not make any noise. Eldor, Do you have pics of your end boom mainsheet set up?? I'm not sure what impact this has on performance. Perhaps Jerry can chime in on this. But I do get a tad frustrated bobbing and weaving around the mid cockpit mainsheet. HI JOE, I DID THE SAME THING THIS YEAR WITH SELKIE. I REMOVED THE TRAVELER TRACK THAT WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE COMPANION WAY . MY BOAT HAS A METAL TOE RAIL. I USED THE LAST HOLE AFT ON THE TOE RAIL TO SECURE THE BLOCKS FOR THE BRIDLE. MAINSHEET COMES FROM THE BECKET ON THE BLOCK AT THE END OF THE BOOM TO THE PORT SIDE STANDING BLOCK ON THE TOE RAIL, BACK TO THE BLOCK ON THE BOOM AND DOWN TO A SINGLE BLOCK WITH CAM CLEAT ON THE STARBOARD TOE RAIL . (I HAVE A DIAGRAM OF THE MAINSHEET BRIDLE SET UP. WHERE DO WE POST PICTURES?) I SAILED SELKIE WITH THE END BOOM MAINSHEET SET UP YESTERDAY, AND IT WORKED VERY WELL. That sounds very similar to the setup I had on my previous NS 27. When I ordered my M17, Bob said they didn't make them with end boom mainsheets so I just wrote the idea off until these recent posts popped up. Thanks for replying. Eldor,
Do you have pics of your end boom mainsheet set up?? I'm not sure what
impact this has on performance. Perhaps Jerry can chime in on this. But I
do get a tad frustrated bobbing and weaving around the mid cockpit
mainsheet.
