Good morning sailers, Does anyone have a source for a centerboard pennant for my Montgomery 17 # 325. West Marine seems to want $145 for one…. Thanks, Doug Vogel C:307-730-2971
For the cast iron board boats all it is is a 5/16" double braid line. The centerboard end remove about 6-8" of the core tie a small bowline to the board. For the M15-centerboard boats the line is also 5/16", still remove the core but instead tie a 8-knot after running the line to the centerboard. :: Dave Scobie :: M6'8" #650 :: Baba 30 #233 DEJA VU :: former owner SV SWALLOW - sailboatswallow.wordpress.com/ :: former owner M17 #375 SWEET PEA - m17-375.com :: former owner M15 #288 SCRED - m15namedscred.wordpress.com On Thu, Aug 24, 2023, 11:05 Douglas Vogel via montgomery_boats < montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> wrote:

Doug: Something else, IMO, going on of replacing that often. Where is line wearing? The line on my old M17 is 15 or so years old. Was looking fine when dropped board in early '19 so only old knot cut off and new bowline tied. Challenge with a grommet is greater chance of jamming in and damage to the trunk. :: Dave Scobie :: M6'8" #650 :: Baba 30 #233 DEJA VU :: former owner SV SWALLOW - sailboatswallow.wordpress.com/ :: former owner M17 #375 SWEET PEA - m17-375.com :: former owner M15 #288 SCRED - m15namedscred.wordpress.com On Thu, Aug 24, 2023, 11:34 Douglas Vogel via montgomery_boats < montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> wrote:

Hi Dave, Right at the trunk hole. I think my sailing partner may have left it slack . At the buoy, the centerboard does move and make some noise. I usually try to lift the centerboard up 1 inch and winch it off to keep wear and tear off the pin. Thanks for your advice . As usual … Doug

$145 for a piece of $6 line seems excessive. West marine must be joking. Sent from my iPad

Get a piece of 5/16 dac line, pull out about 4" of the core on one end in order to taper it, and tie it to the shackle with a really tight double half hitch. Reason for tapering the line is so it will have a smaller knot that won't rub on the sides of the trunk. If you're in salt water I'd replace the shackle for kicks if it shows any corrosion, but be sure it's narrow enough to fit in the trunk. If I remember correctly (don't count on it) the trunk is 7/8" wide. Wait- I think the board is 7/8" wide, so the trunk would be a bit wider, probably an inch. Measure it. This is assuming the boat is one that I made. If it's one that Eeg made I haven't a clue. ________________________________ From: Douglas Vogel via montgomery_boats <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Friday, August 25, 2023 10:08 AM To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Cc: Douglas Vogel <shadowmtlighting@icloud.com> Subject: M_Boats: Re: Center board pennant Jackson, Wyoming
