Bones, What approximate numbers do you come up with for upper and lower shroud tension? Thanks Rick M-17 #633 Lynne L "bownez@juno.com" <bownez@juno.com> wrote:
Hello Listers,
I purchased a Loos gauge shortly after getting my M17. I would set my stays and shrouds to 10% of breaking strength, per Loos instructions. I always felt it was too tight.
Later I came by an article stating that the Loos measurement tool can be quite inaccurate, especially comparing one to another.
Now a days, I tighten by feel, and use the Loos gauge to compare shroud tension side to side to make sure they are equal. (P to S).
Final test is to take her for a brisk sail, and on a hard beat, the Leeward shrouds just go slack.
I now use this method on both of my M boats.
FWIW.
