Rick, have you tried the PVC tube method yet? Find the sweet spot(where you want to mount it) for best function by putting the ducer in a plastic bag filled with water and when underway move the bag around to find that sweet spot, just make sure the flat bottom of ducer is against the hull. Anchor it in some way that the ducer and water bag won't slide around, couple of pieces of duct tape/sandbag or whatever. Find that spot, next take a piece of PVC pipe wide enough that will just allow the ducer to drop down widthwise and lie flat on the bottom of the hull.Rough up the gel coat with some sandpaper and glue/epoxy the PVC to hull. The PVC doesn't have to that long maybe 6- 8" high and you may have to profile the PVC for a good fit on the hull.Buy a threaded insert and bushing and glue the bushing in, then drill a hole in the top of the insert for the ducer wire to pass thru. Fill the tube with salt/fresh water, run wires through hole you made on the insert, screw insert in and connect wires to head of unit. You may want to try siliconing the pipe first and test this method before the epoxy.This will usually work as long as the hull is solid glass and there is no foam core or voids.Also remember that the tube will have to located near the centerline so when you are on tack it still makes contact with the water.
