It is just a toy - actually it depends where you sail. I am not a financially wealthy guy, but I thought it a worthwhile project. My spars were tired rigging, at the end of its useful cycle, and I had a suit of 'serviceable +' sails. Made the pain more palatable. I live in Phoenix, AZ home of very light air-makes my sailing experiences more 'fun.' It is a toy -- and goodness knows we like em FUN! I think the $ cost for my spar was about the same or less than a replacement spar from the builder or Dwyer, and the product is measurably improved. Some people put 26" shiny spinning wheels on their automobiles - whatever blows your hair back. Going faster in marginal sailing conditions blows my hair back. I don't recommend anyone spend any money on their boat - I got outta that business. Heck I am taking collections to paint my topsides (hull-topsides)! Please send donations to: Make Gary's Boat Pretty Again-then the list can select a new color! Take Care, Have Fun, Go Sail - It is too hot here!( eh Sean)?
