Hi All: Grey Mist is getting a new tiller and I wonder whether members of the list have a preference for finishes. Sailing is primarily fresh-water and I plan on a tiller cover made from sunbrella. cheers- Shawn Boles Grey Mist (M17 #276 1978)

I recommend Marine Varnish. Even mahogany can be a thing of beauty when highlighted with 4 to 6 coats of gloss or semi-gloss. I've only had to redo mine once since '81 but I do not leave it out when I'm not using the boat. She's been in salt water for the last 13 years - fresh prior to that. Stan M-15, #177, Carol II
