Any of u skippers using lithium ion batteries to power your tiller pilots? What size battery are u using? I would like to get at least 12 hrs on one charge Captain Jim SV Pelican M15 Get Outlook for iOS<https://aka.ms/o0ukef>
Hey Jim. I have a 100 ah lithium powering my M15 with depth sounder, ST2000 autopilot, lights, phone and tablet. The autopilot draws about .5 amps in light air or while motoring in flat water. Since you can use 80 percent of the battery capacity, you could use the autopilot for about 160 hours before your battery needs to be recharged. I will test that out this coming summer when I motor the entire length of the Erie Canal from west to east and then return to my start location. Should be about 700 miles. Thanks Skipper Wow that sounds like a great trip on the Erie . Hope to hear more about it. My M15 is being set up for cruzing the Channel Islands here in So California. This means overnight passages (say 50 nm) where we are under power with running lights and autohelm drawing maybe 2 amps (2x12=24 watts) for say 12 hrs . So the battery requirements would be 12 x 24 = 300 wh Your 100 ah should last 100/2 x 0.8= 40 hrs This seems quite adequate. I plan to charge the battery with my 100 w solar panels while At anchor Get Outlook for iOS<https://aka.ms/o0ukef> ________________________________ From: msminchome--- via montgomery_boats <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Saturday, December 30, 2023 5:25:13 AM To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Cc: msminchome@aol.com <msminchome@aol.com> Subject: M_Boats: Re: Tiller pilot battery M15 Hey Jim.
