Hello Bill W., The North Channel was a 800 mile drive for me to join a group of Monty sailors in 2007. It is by far one of the loveliest sailing grounds I have ever seen. We went in June. Spanish Marina was less than half filled, and we encountered very few other boats in this pristine area. I want to return soon. Hi Bones, It is beautiful isn't it? We have been there several times in various boats. Will be our first time with the M boat next summer. I am thinking a west - east transit this time over 2 weeks. Starting at Hilton Beach on St. Joseph Island, ending up in Killarney then back to Little Current to haul out. We have friends in the Soo who may be able to shuttle tow vehicle for us. That is the idea floating in the thought bubble right now. The east side of Georgian Bay is also very nice. Launching at Britt off of Hwy 69 then heading north to the Bustard Islands. We started that in 2007, but didn't get all the way to the Bustards. Weather related and an open boat. Was still a lovely trip. The Monty will get us there next time. The Bustards are an amazing little archipelago, glacier shaped, with long rock spines and corresponding narrow channels. Try finding them off of the mouth of the French River on Google Earth. 45 53 47 N 80 54 20 W should put you at the opening of a nice bay to anchor in or tie up to a granite wall. Bones, Your description and some google earth research say the North Channel would indeed be a worthwhile place to visit. Since it is at least 2700 miles from my house, I would feel compelled to hit maybe Lake of the Woods, Apostle Islands, Isle Royale, North Channel, Lake Champlain, and the Main coast to boot. I wonder if anyone with a Montgomery has done the trip up the Erie Canal and Lake Champlain to the Saint Lawrence via Chambly canal and the Richelieu River, with a side trip to seek some French food in Montreal. We can all dream, can we not? Tom Jenkins M17 Scintilla On Nov 21, 2009, at 6:10 AM, bownez@juno.com wrote:
