Has anyone successfully stained a sail (on purpose) and got a good result? I ordered some sail wash last fall that never showed up. Guess I'll look again. Any votes on which I should purchase? How do I get my interior looking new again? I tried the suggestion of "Barkeeper's Friend" from Wal-Mart. Good, but not sparkling white like SCRED's interior pics. Kendall kdocter@bellsouth.net
I found that "TheWorks" that can be found at the Dollar Tree etc is spectacular for cleaning FG. It removes rust marks and water line marks real well. It beats all the products, On/Off, FSR, etc I had tried previously from various boat stores. For really stuborn stains I also used soft scrub. But use a very soft cloth or brush. Kendall, The interior of our M17 was in pretty bad shape when we got her. A previous owner had glued wood strips over most of the cabin ceiling. Liquid Nails was used to secure the wood strips. The wood ceiling probably looked great when it was new, but over time, moisture, water stains, mold, etc. it looked pretty bad and needed to go! After removing the wood and glue (heat gun) I sanded and applied 2 coats of primer to the interior using a product called Kilz http://www.kilz.com . After which I applied several coats of a quality exterior house paint (a stock color matched really close). I also experimented with how to re-create the original factory black splatter-finish that came on our 1988 M17. But wound up going with just the white paint. That was 4 years ago and the interior is still looking pretty good. A previous owner also applied the wood strips to the front vertical area of the v-berth. I left that wood intact as it is looking OK and would have done more harm than good to remove. i agree with Randy Graves that painting the interior with a HIGH QUALITY home exterior paint is a good fix (i've not done this myself, only read that it is an acceptable application). check out Sailboat Refinishing (International Marine Sailboat Library), by Don Casey. he covers all the painting options (and much more). 'refinishing' can also be found as a sub-section of Don Casey's Complete Illustrated Sailboat Maintenance Manual. AND, just buy all of Casey's books ... they are all EXCELLENT. dave scobie M15 #288 - SCRED visit Scred's www-site: http://www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred --- On Thu, 3/5/09, kdocter@bellsouth.net <kdocter@bellsouth.net> wrote: How do I get my interior looking new again? Hello Kendall, I'll cast my vote for Elloit/Pattison Sails, they are the original OEM provider for these fine boats. They are based in Newport Beach, Ca http://www.epsails.com/ They made the sails I currently use on my Flushdeck. Hello Joe, Elliot/Pattison can make any sail you wish to add to the inventory of sails for your boat. I'm pretty sure they have all the numbers in their design data base for the M17. My boat is not a standard M17, It's a tall rig (25ft mast) and It has a modified mast head backstay mount which allows for a larger mainsail roach. So if they can make custom sails for me, they will have no problem making sails for you. But get your order in fairly soon, as the local race season starts in a week or two. By the way, I do not work for, nor do I have any business interest in E/P, they just make great sails and they've been making them for Montgomery's since the 70's Fair Winds Mark E M17 F/D #103 Amy ----- Original Message ---- From: Joe Murphy <seagray@embarqmail.com> To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Monday, March 9, 2009 5:50:41 PM Subject: Re: M_Boats: Which Sails to purchase Mark, Do you know if Elliot Patterson makes a light weight drifter for the M-17?
