Hi Cherri, Jib vs. genoa? Well, how strong is the wind blowing? Less wind = more sail area: more wind = less sail area. In light winds you want the genoa to get as much drive out of the wind as possible. But as the wind speed increases, you'll find that the genoa is too much sail. That's when you want to change down to the working jib. Only having the regular (working) jib on my boat, and sailing in areas where the work of changing sail is hardly worth the effort, I'll just stay with the working jib and go sail! ........but of course a genniker would be nice to play with if one happened to fall at my feet.
