Sandra, As David pointed out, in a chop, making good speed water will come up though the centerboard pendant hole, which is quite large as it also functions as the cockpit drain, The cockpit floor normally slopes away from the stern to the cockpit drain. With a lot of weight in the cockpit this slope will be minimal and the water will not drain properly. If I am going to sail with 3 people in the boat I try to keep all us us well forward and will put a 5 gal jug of water way up in the bow to keep the boat "on her lines". This keeps the water draining out of the cockpit fast enough so that it is not noticeable except for that little bit in the lee forward corner. Don't panic, you have a fine fine boat.
