Skip, I had a similar experience last year when I parked my Flicka/trailer under a redwood tree. It was the time of the year these trees drop their tiny little tannin bombs everywhere. I went to West and purchased all the recommended acid cleaners (Mary Kate, Boat Life, etc.) and none of them even touched the thousands of red/brown stains on my deck. I tried virtually every solvent and cleaner know to man before I eyed a bottle of household bleach across the workshop. I poured a little (full strength) on one of the stains and it vanished instantly. The entire deck cleaned up perfectly within an hour. I wouldn't be surprised if the stains you are experiencing would respond similarly. Apparently many waterborne stains are tannins from tree leaves, etc., that concentrate in certain bodies of water. Does anyone know of any special cleaners that will remove the film from the hull of my boat. My boat was nice and clean when the season started, but now after I have sailed in the Baltimore Harbor a few times my boat has a brownish film along the water line. I have tried to clean it, but nothing seems to help. I have tried power washing, Simply Green, Acetone, Componding, Black Steak Remover & CLR. Is there something I'm missing?? I'm beginning to think my only solution is to wet sand the hull. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Skip
