Hello to list! I've just been observing since I subscribed to this list. I subscribed because I owned an M-17 years ago. I bought her at McWayne Marine in Honolulu in 1976 and lived on her for almost 2 years there. I named her Woodstock, after the bird in the Snoopy cartoons. I had learned to sail hanging out with a friend who owned a documented motorsailer named Snoopy, and since I was always tagging along with him, it was the perfect name for her. I had so many wonderful times on her I wouldn't even know where to start talking story about her! I now own a Com-Pac16 in East TN. My questions are, when did Jerry Montgomery start building these wonderful boats and how many were fitted with a fixed keel? Woodstock had a fixed keel on her and was an awsome little boat. Thanks, Doug Rinaldo
Doug, I think I have pics of every M-boat, except the M17 with the fixed keel. I would love to have a pic of Snoopy, if one exists . . . I'd gladly reimburse you to copy it at a Kinko's and post it to me, if you don't have a scanner. I even have a pic of an M23 with a fixed-keel and M15 deck . . . Yep, the boat exists, a "chimera", and sails in Arizona . . . Doug, I lived in Honolulu from 1956 to 1967, lived on a house boat at Ala Wai Yacht Harbor for most of that period, have may memories of McWayne Marine, (in those days we referred to it as the "jewelry store", ref: high prices). Did you keep your boat at Ala Wai? Is this one of the original cast iron fixed keel 17's? Seems like we sent one to McWayne in the early days, probably in '74.
