Greetings, Just purchased a new to me M-17, Hull # 400. I am slowly learning to navigate the Montgomery web sites but still have not located a source for Montgomery specific parts. At this time I don't need much and could possibly substitute if needed. Thanks in advance for any information Kevin, Sent from Mail<https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=550986> for Windows 10

This is Gary Froeschner. I have a 1976 Montgomery 17, haul # 95 (I think). I believe, after 5 years of decorating my driveway, I might actually get in the water this season. I am in need of a centerboard winch. There is one on my boat, but I don’t think it is the original. It is single speed, one way, non-ratcheting winch. (if I’ve got the nomenclature right). The handle hits the centerboard trunk & you can’t back it up (ratchet) to take another bite. Assuming that this is not how it was designed, do you have the proper winch? If so, how much? I live in Columbia, MO - 65203. Sent from Mail for Windows 10 From: Bob Eeg Sent: Sunday, May 6, 2018 1:27 PM To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats Subject: Re: M_Boats: Montgomery Specific parts. Gary. You need a 6" winch. Yeah, it does need to be watching, so I'm wondering if your boat's has a broken or jammed pawls? See here details on taking one apart to service - https://m17-375.com/2010/04/12/winch-maintenance-arco-6-style-winch/ A lot if the M17s have ACOR 6's. No longer available. A Harken B6A will work fine if your winch is actually beyond repair. Defender.com is a good source. :: Dave Scobie On Mon, May 7, 2018, 8:08 PM Gary Froeschner <gfroesch@socket.net> wrote:

Seems autocorrect got me ... My email list some text. Adding to my prior - yes, as the winch handle will hit the centerboard trunk it needs to be ratcheting. :: Dave Scobie On Mon, May 7, 2018, 8:25 PM Dave Scobie <scoobscobie@gmail.com> wrote:

Or get a winch handle with a bend in it, and if there is enough slop in the winch itself you can just get by (if you don't put the handle into the socket quite all the way). I am going to put a very slight wedge under my CB winch, and then the handle will clear the trunk even fully inserted. It will also - on my boat anyhow - give a bit better alignment of the pennant with the winch drum so should be a win-win. cheers, John S. On 05/07/2018 08:27 PM, Dave Scobie wrote:

Thanks for the responses. My winch does not need repair. It never had the ability to ratchet. I took it apart. That’s the way it was built. It actually works smoothly. Just can’t ratchet the handle backwards. There are no markings on it anywhere. I don’t think it was the original. I will find a Harken B6A or something comparable. Thanks again. Mine doesn't go backwards either but with the angled handel & a thin wedge it will go around & around. I think Dave means a number 6 winch (#6 winch), not a 6 inch winch? cheers, John S. On 05/08/2018 06:14 PM, Gary Froeschner wrote:

My '76 still has what appears to be the original centerboard winch. It is a Lewmar 6, and yes it is a ratcheting winch. Dave Scobie is probably right; your pawls are probably gummed up and you just need to clean and relube your winch. If that is not the case, these small winches are a dime a dozen on Craigslist or at marine salvage yards and consignment shops. I may have mentioned this before but I think you may be misinterpreting your hull #. I'm pretty sure # 95 is too low to be a 1976. -----Original Message----- From: montgomery_boats <montgomery_boats-bounces@mailman.xmission.com> On Behalf Of Gary Froeschner Sent: Tuesday, May 8, 2018 12:05 AM To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Subject: Re: M_Boats: Montgomery Specific parts. Kevin. Most if your boat hardware is Schaefer or Garhauer. There are some custom parts, cleats for example, you need to find an equivalent. Jerry, jerry@jerrymontgomery.org, still has a few of the custom parts. :: Dave Scobie On Sun, May 6, 2018, 12:20 PM Kevin Sandwick <ksandwick@hotmail.com> wrote:

Kevin- It looks like you have one of the 400-some 17's that I made, which don't have too much in common with the eeg-built boats except that they came out of the same molds. If you can be more specific about what parts you need, between Dave, Sage marine, and I, we can probably help. -----Original Message----- From: Dave Scobie Sent: Sunday, May 06, 2018 1:01 PM To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats Subject: Re: M_Boats: Montgomery Specific parts.
