Some one commented on the "powerful" three part outhaul being overkill for the M15 in my boom photographs. If the 3:1 ration was there for power I might agree that it is more than adequate for an M15 but it is three to one for fine tuning the adjustment. It functions like a vernier. If you want a 1 inch adjustment you have to pull in 3 inchs of line. If you want a 1/3 inch adjustment you have to pull in 1 inch. I have seen two part tackles used on Jib sheets for small boats as well. These are for fine tuning jib shape as the last 2 inchs of jib trim need to be very precise for the prevailing conditions to optimize windward jib shape.
