During the middle of July we trailed to Cortes Island in Desolation Sound in BC and launched on a nice ramp in Cortes Bay. We cruised with a group of Ranger 26 boats for the next 5 days. This was our first "micro cruise" and my wife and I were pleased with the M-15, especially with how easy the boat is to launch and rig. Our first night sleeping on the boat was not perfect but each night the bunk seemed bigger and bigger. By the end of our vacation we learned the moves and slept fine. The M-15 drew more comments than I am used to. Some related to the small size of our boat. "What boat do you tow that with?" "You don't SLEEP on it, do you?" The others were statements of admiration. "Nice boat" Cute boat" "Where did you get that?" "I used to own a Montgomery." "I like your boat!" The little Suzuki motor was totally reliable and we used only a couple of quarts of fuel on the whole trip. We do try to sail whenever we can. We trailed the M-15 behind our Honda CR-V and averaged 22 mpg while traveling 65 mph and sometimes faster. My boat came with the factory stainless mast carrier. I welded another pintle above the existing two to reduce the height by about a foot. I also cut off several inches from the front mast support on the trailer. The boat now goes under a 7-foot garage door with the mast stowed in this lowered position. AND on BC Ferries being under 7 feet saves you from paying the "extra height" fee which saved me many $$$! We launched in Anacortes and sailed to Friday Harbor and the SJs for a few days. We also launched in Lake Union in Seattle and sailed with Duck Dodge, a beer can race held Tuesday evenings by "48 Degrees North". Easy to launch; great! Charless and Marjorie Fowlkes Bozeman, MT
Charless, What a great cruise! I love to hear of Montgomery boats being used so well. I hope you enjoy many more cruises like this. Doug Kelch "Seas the Day" M15 #310 --- Charless Fowlkes <cwfowlkes@imt.net> wrote:
