I am looking at buying a 1985 Monty 17. The hull number is 383066371PMM. Based on this number can anyone confirm this is a 1985 boat? She is in rough shape but I think some elbow grease and lots of rubbing compound I can bring her back. Also, the trailer has one rotted board that has created a hard spot. The hull is slightly deformed at this spot. Will it pop back out once I float her? Mike Johnson Sent from my iPad
Hello, Mike, is this boat "Gypsy Rose"? I saw a Montgomery with this name, and a backwards HIN much like this, back in July 2005 in Colonial Beach, VA. Never got any more info from anyone on the list on this boat. I'll forward you that old e-mail separately. Good luck. John Tyner M-15 #412 "Chimpanzee" On 5/7/2011 6:59 PM, Mike Johnson wrote:

This boat is located in of all places Montgomery, TX. It's stored outside on it's trailer and you would think it has been abandon by the owner. I thought the hull number was that of a 1983 boat. She has the galley on the port side. I hope I can get my hands on her. I've been following Montgomery boats for a while and am a big fan of Lyle Hess. My father owned a Falmouth Cutter and I have great memories of that boat. Thanks! Mike Sent from my iPad On May 7, 2011, at 21:08, John Tyner <tynerjr@md.metrocast.net> wrote:

Mike, if, indeed, this is a case of a transposed HIN, this would be M-17 #366, built in March of 1983 (MMP173660383). On 5/7/2011 6:59 PM, Mike Johnson wrote:

I doubt the deformed hull will 'Pop' back. It took a while to deform on the trailer.

Mike- It probably will come back; while it's in the water, fix the trailer, obviously making sure that it doesn't bear on the deflected area. Give it some time. If it persists, go over the deflected area with a hair dryer, being careful to not get it too hot, and pile something heavy on it while still hot, then let it cool. If this doesn't work yhou'll need to bond on a parch of balsa core and glass over it. jerry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike Johnson" <mrexj71860@gmail.com> To: <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Saturday, May 07, 2011 4:59 PM Subject: M_Boats: Used Montgomery 17
