Re: M_Boats: Check out Coalition to Save Our GPS
Okay - here we go - Anyone who knows me will NOT follow me to arrive at a destination while sailing. I agree with Scobie - Charts and compass seem to serve me well, remember - TRUST them, GPS is nice for the car (have road map in the glove box with a pair of 'gloves' of course). Stick and stone technology (Dead Reckoning) 'needle and cork' works EVERY time. So I anxiously await - my sailing downgraded from 'carefree' to 'Now What?' - oh hell -just go sailing till I bump something. Have Fun, Sail by DR end of POV from BFA. GO
Hi Gary, I do not have a dog in this fight and probably should have kept my comments to myself but I will sign off (forever shut up hence forth on any GPS interference by LS) by saying that the technical report I saw from Garmin on the interference from LS used a power falling off as inverse of distance squared instead of the more realistic inverse of distance to the third or fourth power (this is due to your receiver being close to the ground) and I had read that the devices in the Nevada test that were jammed were not typical GPS devices (GPS World). So I am still not convinced that the analysis and testing done are conclusive but I don't want to make an issue of it. There is a big GPS industry out there that can readily fend for themselves with lobbyists, and I am sure will. I prefer to talk sailing stuff. Robbin On 2/1/2012 12:02 PM, GILASAILR@aol.com wrote:
