Welcome to the list Tom!! --- tim@timtone.com wrote: From: Timtone <tim@timtone.com> To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Subject: M_Boats: Greetings All. Date: Thu, 27 Jul 2006 07:43:57 -0700 I would like to say hello. I have enjoyed this group for a few weeks now. From what I have read there is a great deal of experience and character amongst the members. I think I am going to enjoy this place. ~:0) A special hi to Jerry as it is a special deal that the original builder of these boats, and mine in particular, is an active member of the group. My wife and I bought 1983 M17 #369 from Joe Hubert 10 days ago. I believe the previous owner before him was Mike Lenard. Joe had named the boat Puff though had not lettered the hull itself. With a lot of discussion we decided to retain the name and had a semi formal naming ceremony. I will letter the boat soon. In the 10 days since Puff has come to sail with us we have sailed seven of them. Between work and sailing I have done very little else. The current discussion on rig failure is very timely as I had this very topic in mind and was going to mention it eventually myself. Although, so far (knocking on Pine desk top), no rigging failures with Puff, but I had dismasted my other sailboat earlier this year. Our sailing grounds this year have been very high pressure. Last night was steady 20knots with sustained gusts very much higher. The boat is getting stressed and pushed very hard. Even under well reduced canvas. I know there is almost no way of knowing, but I am wondering if I should be considering a new set of standing rig? Actually, I know the answer to that....of course I do....but I guess I am wondering you all know it needs to be "replaced right away, no-questions-asked" or I should be fine until seasons end? I will be calling the 2nd previous owner today to see if he replaced anything during his time. For years I have kept a blog for my other boat Annie M. and our sailing adventures. Much like other folks on this list. It gives me an opportunity to do some writing and combine my love of photography. We are in Kelowna British Columbia and sail Lake Okanogan. My first blog entry for the new boat is here <http://www.timtone.com/tt/blog/PuffPageOne.htm>if anyone is interested. http://www.timtone.com/tt/blog/PuffPageOne.htm Have Fun!
