Rick there is something wrong if you smell a strong resin odor. I have smelled it in my boat when I sawed or drilled a opening, but when I coated the edges with epoxy for waterproofing that took care of the odor. Have you or a PO possibly cut a hole somewhere and not sealed it?

I agree with the previous posters that a bad connection in the fuel line will lead to the problems you are having. I just learned a new glitch that can also cuase the same problems. My Yamaha kept losing power then dying after running for a few minutes at low rpm. When I would check the bulb it would be soft and if I kept pumping it occasionaly the motor would continue to run fine. I changed every fitting, tightened every clamp, even changed complete fuel lines and still had the same problem. A knowledgeable friend figured it out in a bout 2 seconds. He told me I probably had a very small pinhole in one of the fuel pump diaphragms. As long as the motor was revved up the pump was still strong enough to draw fuel through the primer bulb's check valve. As soon as I idled down it wasn't strong enough to draw through the check valve. As soon as it exausted the available fuel on the engine side of the primer bulb it would crap out. Pump the bulb a few times and it would fire right back up. I bought a diaphragm from boats.net for about $15.00, put it in which was a piece of cake, and whamo! she's running like a top again.
Heading out tomorrow morning for the 1300+ mile drive to meet up with Larry and the gang in the San Juans. It's gonna be a long trip to get up there but we are really excited..and believe it or not there are folks coming from a lot further away then we are.....all the way from Texas in fact! We should arrive in Anacortes Friday, early afternoon. The group will be having dinner together Saturday night in Anacortes and then heading out Sunday morning. If your a Monty owner/fan but can't make the trip (and live up that way) come on down and say hi, we'd love to meet you.

Well said Gary,
I had great sailing on my M23 over the weekend as well. There are two Hess boats in my marina, mine and a Norsea 27. They seem to turn the most heads and generate the most questions. Kudos galore to Lyle, Jerry and Bob.

for those 'rare find' montgomery fans i saw on the seattle-tacoma craigslist an M12 (miss-described as an M13 in the ad) -

no rigging, but i'm sure great for those that love projects.
(for those wanting to know, Belfair (WA) is at the 'end' of hood canal.

Ok
It has been almost 3 mo. 4 days 2 hrs 5 min since my last taste of rum. After 3 days of chiseling out epoxy steel punching I am starting to think about that jug I have stashed in the bilge how good a little sip would taste. My mouth feels like dry rot.
I will hold off at least until the sun dips below the yard arm.
The steel is out!!
Now what do I do? pellets or ingots?
I really appreciate all the help and suggestions and moral support from this form. How I am able to help some one else.

It's a scientifically proven fact that enough rum will float all those resin particles right out of your pores. Go for it- you owe it to your body!
