Jon, 1. Re: making up pendant whether, shackle-bowline, bowline alone, or sewn eye splice, you may have hit the best argument for getting family funds to pay for scuba lessons and scuba equipment! a. I am only able to hold my breath for about 45 seconds. b. I am amazingly slow re: all options for pendant make up. c. The rough part is whatever option you choose, the pendant make up needs to be tight against the centerboard. You really can’t pull the line out from under the hull and make up the pendant attachment topside. d. This also assumes your stop pin is a bolted assembly with hex nut and hex head exposed exterior to hull. This would allow underwater removal. i. If embedded pin, suppose you could sand to expose both sides of the pin and drive it out underwater. 1. Pin removal or time required to find dropped hex head bolt and nut is further justification for scuba lessons. 2. Imagine where you could sail and dive from your boat, with lessons and equipment paid for with the justification of boat maintenance. a. Let me know if the scuba proposal actually works, pretty much a non-starter in my family. 😊 TJ de Lacy M17 hull # 333 From: Jon Barber <brbrbarber@gmail.com> Sent: Tuesday, May 30, 2023 11:48 AM To: tdelacy@wavecable.com Subject: Re: M_Boats: Pendant Replacement M17 Well, if I need to remove the boat from the trailer I'll just launch it and make up the pendant underwater. Concur with Mark Dvorscak that unfortunately you will need to remove the boat from the trailer. 2. Do you know how long your pendant lasted? a. I am curious as I sewed a pendant w/o the eye splice. (1) See slide 42 of my power point posted on facebook listed under the files tab of Montgomery Sailboat site. (2) I was frustrated with my skills at creating a tight bowline and living with a small portion of the centerboard exposed. I opted to sew an eye splice. (3) I am planning on removing my boat annually from the trailer to monitor the pendant and observe the biological growth on the centerboard in the trunk. Luckily, it happened on the trailer. What is the recommended method for replacement? Can I do it by lowering the board with boat in the water? The old pendant had an eye splice without a thimble. That's where it parted. It was attached to a shackle. I think it was a racelite shackle. Thanks for your help, Jon Barber Montgomery17 Ol'44
