My hatchboards fit so tight that I was worried that the eight coats of Epifanes would be too much. I would be careful coating with epoxy, which will increase thickness quickly. The Epifanes alone gives a beautiful, mirror-like finish. The boards get a little scuffed on the edges, but there's no chipping.
