Hello I am the owner of 2006 M15. I have a 43 lb Yamaha 4 stroke mounted on port stern. The boat lists from the outboards weight. I would like to add ballast to trim the boat. Its a very tight space under the starboard bench. The boat was built with extra ballast glassed into the bow. What have others used or what might you recommend I use to correct this situation. Sandra, With our 1988 M15 we had a 2-cycle 4hp Yamaha outboard and noticed the listing you are referring to. The 15 being a lighter boat it is sensitive to added weight of any sort. Our M15 with 2 adults sat low in the stern, because of this we would try and move as much weight as possible, and as far forward as possible (we do the same with our M17). My suggestion would be to fill some milk jugs with water and experiment placing them for forward under the v-berth and see if the boat will balance. Unless your boat is already heavy-toward the bow I would look first at placing the weight forward and low. sandra: as others have stated, the M15 is going to lean a bit because of her light weight. with a motor on one side, even the honda, you will notice some list. now ... she will list more with the movable ballast called the crew. because of this DON'T WORRY about countering the motor weight when sitting at the dock. you, and crew if present, are more important in balancing the boat when sailing. my system on my 15 was to sit far forward in the cockpit. a tiller-extender helped. this seating position made controlling the main and jib sheets an easy task. i would further improve performance ... as the 15 sails best with with a very slight bow-down position and a 10-ish degree heal (to the wind) by adjusting my seating to the stern/bow and leeward/windward. this is not to say i did load the boat with about equal port and starboard. this is an important safety consideration ... but i never spent a significant time worry that the boat floated 'on her lines' when at the dock. i also found a group 24 battery in the forward compartment of the v-berth (also the location of the bow flotation foam) was a good counterbalance to my weight in the cockpit. from your posting i'm guessing that an equal amount of weight has been added in your 15 ... the "extra ballast glassed into the bow." (by the way ... was this a factory 'option' done by bob, or by a past owner(s)?) use the movable ballast/crew to balance the boat to the current wind and sea condition. DON'T waste your time countering the motor weight with added ballast so the boat 'looks good' sitting at the dock. more details about my options and ideas about sailing the M15 can be read on my old boat's www-site - http://www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred trust me ... by moving yourself, and crew, as needed you can out-sail many a boat larger and thought to be faster with your 15. dave scobie M17 #375 - SWEET PEA (former M15 owner) visit SWEET PEA's www-site - http://www.m17-375.webs.com --- On Sat, 4/17/10, Sandra Anton <sailrsandy@yahoo.com> wrote: Hello I am the owner of 2006 M15.
