I've become dissatisfied with the name I picked for my M17. This isn't a new problem. We've had a lot of dogs and it's sometimes been hard to find the right name, though we've always managed eventually. But it's preying on me. I never formally named her so I have no qualms about changing it. Not really looking for suggested names but maybe for ways to go about thinking of one.
Can anyone confirm or deny whether the bow railing for the Montgomery 15 is the same as the West Wight Potter 15? I’m the proud new owner of #190, but she comes to me without it, and I’d like to add it. Thanks, David D. dajada@gmail.com

The Coast Guard might also giggle if you call them in an emergency and they ask for your boat name and location. Connie

Just in case it tickles your sense of humor, you're currently leading the pack with my favorite suggestion. No, not "Darling Devine...". "Keep It Short." Awesome name for an M17.
If I were to re-name my M-15, which I do not plan to do because of the old mariner's superstition that re-naming a boat brings bad luck, I would re-name her Keep It Small & Simple. Suggestions: BOB-for either Bob Eeg or what we do when the wind dies. WIND RACER-we can always hope. CARE LESS- my normal modus operandi and how I feel when on the water. HELPMEJESUS- when the lee port is showing green, the main sheet is stuck, and the tiller tamer won't release. Not a bad idea for many other occasions. BEYOND-where most of us really are when we're at the helm.(There's still some imaginative little boy-or girl-in all of us). GOOD LUCK- why do people always say that to me when I leave the dock? Steve: the first photo in the slideshow linked below show the cup holders that were on my M15 - http://www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred/m15interiortour.htm i believe there were 'BECKSON MARINE Safe Can Holder' - http://www.beckson.com/hh6.html i didn't like their location ... were in the way when lounging in the cockpit as they were placed high on one's back. locating them on the footwell wall port/starboard forward near the companionway and just aft of the board where the mainsheet swivel block & centerboard cleat are located, would have been better. -- :: Dave Scobie :: former M15 owner #288 - http://www.freewebs.com/m15-name-scred :: M17 #375 SWEET PEA - http://www.m17-375.webs.com :: Sage 17 #1 - AIR BORN - http://sagemarine.us/sage_17.html :: Sage 15 sloop #001 - ASOLARE - http://sagemarine.us/sage_15.html :: SageCat #000 - SAGECAT - http://sagemarine.us/sagecat.html On Mon, Aug 8, 2016 at 5:16 PM, Steve Trapp <stevetrapp@q.com> wrote:

I bought a teak binocular holder - the longest one I could find - but it wasn't designed for 7 X 50 binoculars. I needed a teak "stretcher" to provide the room required.
Luckily I had a good shop. I cut my teak holder; spliced in about a 4 inch section so that O could cut the binocular holes to the size and spacing I needed; I built a holder for the GPS; the VHF radio; and for the beer can in an insulator. At the right hand corner I had a small length of bungee cord to firmly hold the Grundig radio, which fitted in the remaining space, and the Grundig antenna fitted neatly in the slot for the hatch boards; i.e., nicely protected from damage.
So, when sailing by myself I had everything I needed at my finger tips; ... and the beer never spilled if a sudden gust hit me.

As I watched a good, locally brewed microbrew beer trickle down the
cockpit drainhole of my M-15, I wondered if M-boats have ever been built with cup holders, or if an aftermarket cup holder that does not require too much alteration of the M-15 cockpit is available? Steve M-15 # 335

I made up a plywood hatch board the same height as the two bottom boards to use while sailing. On it I have clips to hang such things as a garmin gps, a nylon tool container I got from home depot to put necessary stuff in, an inclinometer and finally a drink holder that holds two drinks but can be opened to hold four drinks. I saw some suction cup, gimbaled cup holders at west marine. I use a suction cup camera holder that works great it you wet the surface first, so I bet they'd be great and no holes. Jazz On Aug 9, 2016 10:18 AM, "mrh219--- via montgomery_boats" < montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> wrote:

My late wife named our M-15 "Shrunken Treasure" because of the boat size as well as our budget. The name is still painted on her stern because I have heard that re-naming a boat invites bad luck, but I have enjoyed fair wind, and good luck for many years. Some time last night--I'll leave it to you to guess how late--I thought that YELLOW SUBMARINE would be a great name, especially with the right paint job.
David, My hull is a great yellow, 1977, which I named "AS-IS" which is how I bought it but the name is really a shortened view on life "AS it IS". Don't know about "Yellow Submarine" though. Don't want to give "Murphy" any suggestions. Fair winds, Tom B On Mon, Aug 8, 2016 at 1:30 PM, David Rifkind <drifkind@acm.org> wrote:
