Got back from the BEER (Backwater Environmental Escape Rendevous) in Florda this week. 3 small boats were there: a M-15, a Potter 15, & a 20' cat boat; boats like 26' MacGregors and Morgons predominated. Half the trip was a beam reach with northerly land breezes in the early AM and southwesterly sea breezes buyilding around noon. Only down side was the long road trip. Might have to try the Savannah area instead next year. It's closer to NC. Mike, Fionnula, M-15
Mike: I live in Tupelo Ms. and was very interested in the beer creuise in Pensacola. How do I get on the e mail list letting me know when another cruise is to be held.? I am familuar with the area somewhat as I have a friend who livesw on Bayou Chico. Thank you and happy sailing. I am rehabing a 78 Monty. Hi Louis, the cruise is held every year about the same time every year. The ooficial web-site llink is: http://www.beercruise.info/ It is updated a few months before the cruise. The Facebook link had a little more information earlier than the web-site was updated, but it seems to deal more with what people are drinking than sailing. The following link has the best set of pictures showing the type of anchorages. We skipped the larger crowded ones and found more secluded sites close by. Cheers, Mike Murphy On 6/20/11, Louis Remmers <louremmers@yahoo.com> wrote:

Hi Joe-- looks like it is going to start June 4 this year. The web site is at : http://www.beercruise.info/cruise-details.html We had a good time last year. Besides the beach and sailing there are are nice museums closes by, particularly the Naval Air Museum at Pensacola. Anchoring is easy in the sand. Most use a double anchor with the stern on the beach so they can walk ashore. I see that one 15' Potter is signed up. Lots of Macgregors which do a little more motor sailing than the Florida 120 folks. This year I'm thinking of going to the Florida 120. It starts May 16 and goes thru May 20. they plan to do longer legs each day but willstill be close to food, restroom, and quickie-mart stops for ice. We might stop at the Air Force museum at Eglin before we start sailing. Here is the Florida 120 Yahoo Site. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FL120/ They also have a Facebook page you can 'friend."
