I thought a couple of Montgomery sailors were going to do the Texas 200 - if so could you report a synoposis. I am thinking of doing the OBX130 and would like to hear about "beach" camping with an M15. Were you anchored too far off of the slowly shallowing beaches? Bill and Paul Moffitt are organizing a Texas200 type event called the OBX130. It will take place around the Outer Banks of North Carolina. They have set up a website with a forum. If you are at all interested, keep an eye on it for developements.... http://www.obx130.com/
And there is the Florida 120 http://forums.bateau2.com/viewtopic.php?t=18127&sid=c49cfde3f6e2f07ea1fec64d... scheduled for May 14 - 17. How about a North Channel 200 in June of 2009? --- On Tue, 12/2/08, Doug Kelch <doug_kelch@yahoo.com> wrote: From: Doug Kelch <doug_kelch@yahoo.com> Subject: M_Boats: Texas 200 - Outer Banks 130 To: "Montgomery" <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Date: Tuesday, December 2, 2008, 9:10 AM I thought a couple of Montgomery sailors were going to do the Texas 200 - if so could you report a synoposis. Doug, Thanks for the heads up on the OBX 130. It sounds perfect. The routes cross thru some really skinny water, but I think a 16" or 19" draft should do well. I hope to do some sailing of this area. I've gone ahead and registered on the OBX 130 forum. Joe ps BTW, where/what is the North Channel 200?? jm SeaFrog M-17 #651 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Doug Kelch" <doug_kelch@yahoo.com> To: "Montgomery" <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, December 02, 2008 9:10 AM Subject: M_Boats: Texas 200 - Outer Banks 130 I thought a couple of Montgomery sailors were going to do the Texas 200 - if so could you report a synoposis. Since the 5200 mile round trip to Anacortes in June is a bit much for me to make towing Griselda (M17 fin keel) with the dinghy on the top rack, I am looking at the Texas 200 instead. The 450 mile, one day, drive is far more appealing than 4 to 5 days each way to Pudget sound. My one concern is Griselda's 39" draft and the shallow water along the route. I do have my Fatty Knees row/sail dinghy that I can tow for shore access as long as there is 5 feet to anchor in near the camping spots. I realze that staying in deep water would add distance to the route but Griselda is pretty fast with the fin keel and her full batten main. Many of the smaller open boats would take as long for the shorter shoal water route. It would be nice to correspond directly with someone who participated in the 2008 event to help me decide if Texas 200 is an event I could enjoy. I have older charts for the texas coast but there is nothing like first hand experience. I am not worried about navagation because I have sailed for over 50 years and am an experienced offshore and coastal navigator. It is the people who make an event enjoyable and the Texas 200 folks seem to by the right kind of people to make for a fun event.
