Hello, First, please pardon me for filling your mailboxes, but I have another question. I am looking for a depth indicator for my M17. I am leaning toward the Uniden QT206 because of its low current requirement. Does anyone have experience with the in hull transducer? Where did you mount the transducer? Thanks, Earl Landers
Earl. I mounted my transducer under the V berth just forward of the keel, using silicon caulk to bed it in on my M17. ~~~_/)~~~ Gary Sent from my iPhone :-) On Apr 30, 2011, at 10:05 AM, Earl Landers <elanders@bak.rr.com> wrote:

Earl, I did the same as Gary but knocked it loose somehow. So I moved it to the hull under the platform for the porta potty and it has worked great there, no chance of hitting it with anything in that location. I put a Humminbird HDR 650 in my 1977 M-17, on the flat spot just in front of the keel. It's about the cheapest one you can find. I poured water in the place I wanted to put it, tossed the transducer in and it worked great. Next step, epoxy. Then it wouldn't work! I chiselled it out, tried water again , worked great. Tried a different epoxy, same story. Chiselled it out again. The I noticed there were some voids in the laminate. I dug holes in the voids with a knife, and set the transducer again with polyester resin. It was getting too cold for epoxy to set. Worked great, and has given me no problem since. I can't understand how it worked so well with water, then not with the epoxy.. But after chisseling it out twice, it really cleaned up the fiberglass surface. I mounted the unit on the verticel bulkhead just in front of the v-berth, at an angle so it can be easily seen from the cockpit. It's close to the battery and easy to wire at that location.
