Thanks Randy for the pictures of your boat's electrical system. The addition of pictures to our discussions add so much. Because of your pictures Bud asked the question of how you charge the battery and we all learned about the 12 volt DC outlet method. Now this method might be common knowledge for some, but for me it was a revelation of simplicity and convenience. I was planning on a 12 volt outlet, but I don't think I would have reasoned that I could charge the battery through it. I've been to your site before, when I first got my boat. I copied your trailer outboard mount and tire mount. I also made a foldable hatch screen insert that was inspired by the one I saw on your website. So, thanks for those pictures too. Bill has done a wonderful job on the MSOG photo site. I go there a couple of times a week to look at new entries and the ones I've already seen. However, these are formal pictures and even though they add a lot of richness to the MSOG site, they don't deal with the nuts and bolts type issues in which I seem to be more interested. I think it would be great to have a depository of "how to" and "unique features" pictures that we could all refer to during our discussions. When Bill first solicited pictures for the site I looked through my picture files for ones that I could send to him, but I didn't have any. All the pictures of my boat are of improvements that I made or of specific areas where someone on the list has asked for a particular view. I don't have any formal "this is the boat" pictures and no pictures with me in them. So, in the spring, I'll have to take some. So from now on the "Dinky Boat" website is at the top of my favorites list. Rick Langer M15 #337 Sialia
. . . you can't stop at one . . . So today I drove to Ohio and bought 1974 Montgomery 12' number 58 . . . Thanks again to those who posted notices for it on the list. The former owner was fantastic: Replaced the trailer lights and repacked the axle bearings, trailered the boat to a halfway point between Cleveland, OH and Lansing, MI, and loaned me his license plate and what must be an out-of-print account of an epic small-boat voyage. Montgomery owners. They're good people. --Craig F. Honshell 1984 M17 #389 1974 M12 #58
Congrats, Craig I was really tempted to buy it myself, but I just have too many boats too little time as it is... Let us know how it sails! Thanks, Tod. I've received some good feedback from Jerry and Cliff Sojourner on what to expect, and can't wait 'til Spring to find out for myself. I'm relieved you decided to pass this one up, especially since it was right there in your neck of the woods. :-) Fair winds, Craig ----- Original Message ----- From: htmills@bright.net To: 'For and about Montgomery Sailboats' Sent: Sunday, January 09, 2005 10:44 PM Subject: the problem with owning a montgomery is that . . .
