Fitting the Porta-Potti to the hold by using boiling water inside and pressing the Tetford 125 Potti into place sounds feasable, but has anyone done this and what are the risks? I hate to buy a new Potti and ruin it. I cant believe that hold has been made so small for all these years. Is there an old model Potti that did fit it? Lou Aliotta
I think this is all documented in the archives. I originally tooled the 15 for an exact fit for the PP35. vA few years later Thetford dropped the 35, replacing it with the 135. I bought all the 35's that I could find in the pipeline, and when they ran out I retooled the mold to fit the 135. I have fit 135's to the 35 bases using a hair dryer, and others have done it using hot water. In both cases patience and a beer in hand are helpful. jerry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lou" <capnlou@ec.rr.com> To: <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Monday, April 20, 2009 6:34 AM Subject: M_Boats: Porta-Potti...

Lou, In the beginning the Thetford 135 did fit properly.? Jerry made the plug using the Thetford porta-potti but years later Thetford changed the size of their PP without telling Jerry.? (Hard to believe?I know).? It would be expensive for Jerry to make a new plug, so he bought up all the old?Thetford PP that he could find.? Since then, we all reform the new Thetford PP to fit.? I have done this myself and it is easy.? Just add water and weigh the PP?down by sitting on it or use something?else.? I added boiling water, set a?5 gal bucket of cat litter on top and walked away.? The next morning the water was cold and the PP fit?like a champ!!!? It's a very slight modification, nothing to worry about.??
