Re: M_Boats: advice on hull to deck joint repair
Hello Mark and Robbin, I have a slight leak as well on my M23, port side, at the lowermost point in the sheer. The only thing I have done up to this point is enlarge the toe rail holes so water does not pool there. Perhaps I will re-bed a number of the toe rail screws before I splash the boat, it can't hurt. Robbin, I'll be curious to know your findings after you remove the entire rail. I would prefer to not remove mine. Mark, did you have toe rails leaks as well? Did re-bedding the screws solve the issue? Thanks guys.... Hi Bones, yes my port side too. After working on the joint today I have concluded that Mark was right. That there is no leak path through the joint itself. I have detached half the rail and cleaned up the inside of the rail and the deck lip and reefed out the old flaking adhesive. I noticed on the interior where either the builder or previous owner fiberglassed the hull to the deck toward the stern so that is not leaking. Up by the leak the glass stops. I am now set up to fill the very thin gap on the exterior with 5200 and bed the screws and toe rail at the same time and put it all back together. Then I will do the front port in the same manner. I am not going to remove the whole rail, but it seems pretty easy to handle. The rail on the M-23 is just a strip of metal. Pretty flexible. Cheers Robbin On 4/8/2013 8:56 AM, bownez@juno.com wrote:
