Has anyone installed a Boomkicker on their Monty, and if so what has been your experience? Tim, My Monty came with a boomkicker which I used for a season. It worked fine but I removed it primarily because I couldn't get used to NOT having the support of a topping lift when not sailing. I will see if I can find a picture of the boat with it installed. If you are interested, I will look thru my "sailboat spares" and see if i still have all the parts and if so I would give them to you if you would pay the shipping cost. I live in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. Regards...Arnold Sharpe M-17, hull 283, " Little Breeze" On Mar 7, 2010, at 10:35 AM, Tim McInerney wrote:

I think they would work well along with a Boom Vang. The fiberglass rod type boom kickers are adjustable in the mast groove; with a nice 4 part boom vang you could have a solid boom that wouldn't need a topping lift. Most likely you could have better sail-shape on a beam reach and a run. Also in light air the boom kicker would relax any downward tension (weight of the boom) to give the sails a smooth shape. (?) Are they worth $200....Hmmm..(plus the vang hardware and block system.) Fair winds Bob (949) 489-8227

Hi Eldor and Dorothy.... Glad to help.! You're going to need a large bag of Ty-Raps (Home Depot the long ones) So expect to tie up the furler every time you trailer. I like a 4 part block system attached to the front mast carrier with a previously installed stainless eyebolt. Use the Jib Halyard (cleated off) and the mast will go up easy. Run the furling line aft just like Tom Jenkins did on his M_17. Neat and simple. Call me if you need anything Fair winds Bob (949) 489-8227
