one more video - Wye River late September
This is a three day cruise as well. The first day was just two boats but the winds were 18 kts gusting to 25 the first day so ... no video - too much fun. The last day was no wind but I thought you would like seeing Dovekie out cruising. The Dovekie skipper is holding up a handful of wild turkey feathers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bq4spQ7zM0w Thanks Doug Kelch M15 #310 "Seas the Day"
From someone who has more than a couple of Doug's cruising videos, they offer a nice reminder of some memorable events. Not only does he do a great job of shooting these, he does it while sailing.......not motoring......sailing his own boat. Pretty impressive to watch that happen just by itself. And YouTube is a good way to share these. Speaking of YouTube, I've found my old Hi8 video camera to be a problem. I've not found a good way to make the conversion to a workable video format, so I'm interested in a good quality digital cam corder for YouTube postings. Any camcorder buffs that can make a good recommendation? The rest of us would like to join the fun.....meaning trailing in Doug's wake. Howard On Feb 19, 2009, at 10:22 AM, Doug Kelch wrote:

Doug, I don't think I ever thanked you for the videos.? THANKS!!! That was my only outing last year.? Sad but true!!? My life has gotten a bit complex this past year and my sailing time has suffered.? It was nice watching the video and wishing for warmer weather.? I have already scheduled an over nighter in July down at Assateague Island.? I am hoping to get out more this year.? At least that is my plan as it sits today.? Only time will tell. I hope all is well with Mike and Al and the rest of the gang.? Tell them I said hello.? Also, tell Mike I retired my danforth and picked up a Bruce!!!!? Now, if?only?I?could figure out how to us it.? Hi Skip, Learning to use an anchor(s) is like learning to play the violin. It's practice, practice, ....practice. You have to know what's on the bottom that the anchor can grab.... You have to know what the tide range will be - 1 foot?, .... or 25 feet?, and the flow directions. You have to be careful that you have enough scope. You want a horizontal pull on your rode, not a vertical one that lifts the anchor out of the bottom; this is what the chain on the anchor is supposed to do. Two anchors are always better than one - you can sleep better when it starts blowing at midnight. Different anchors are needed for different bottom conditions; a Danforth is great in a sand bottom, but might pull through a soupy mud bottom. A Bruce or a CQR type anchor have more weight, and with a pointy end, tend to dig in faster and hold better. The only one that can determine which anchor is best for your sailing area is you,_* the skipper*_, after you have looked at the charts and determined what kinds of bottoms you will encounter. Then you can select the right tools to do the job. Two anchors, with chain and rodes should be your minimum on-board equipment. I also used to carry the small FORTRESS with chain and rode, up forward under the berth of our M15. It was never used, but it was a great insurance policy to have available.
