The bizarre thing about the whole story is that I believe that the main is the one that originally came with the boat (made by McKibbin). So the story that maybe the mast got damaged is unlikely, unless someone also cut the main sail after the fact. (But it really looks like it was made this way.) How does one properly measure the luff of the sail? I have a feeling it is a bit stretchy, so could it be that the length I measured (with the sail laid out on the ground) does not include this stretch? I am asking this because after I raise the main, when I pull down on the cunningham I get another at least 5" from where it just ends up by itself after the main was raised. Also, with the main up, how high is the boom off the cabin? Maybe my sail is too short but the mast is normal size? Thanks, Andrei.
Why don't you just measure the mast? McKibbon would not have made a sail too short; he was/is really uptight about doing things right. Sails should be measured on the floor, just barely snug. ________________________________ From: Andrei Caldararu via montgomery_boats <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Friday, September 10, 2021 4:28 PM To: montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Cc: Andrei Caldararu <andreicaldararu@yahoo.com> Subject: M_Boats: Re: Strange mast size? I will measure the mast, in about 10 days when I get a chance to get to the boat. (The boat is moored in Lake Michigan, I am about 150 miles away from there.) A.
