Hi all, Stopped by the Annapolis sailboat show today to check out the new Sage 17, I think you all are really going to like her. The cabin is a bit different then the M17, no compression post and longer berths for sleeping and better sitting room as well. Spent some time with Sal and Gail and enjoyed speaking with them. First class folks who will put out a terrific sailboat. Congrats to them and Jerry as well, nice job guys Gary Valetti M17

As Gail Glesser told me this afternoon, the Sage 17 is "a Montgomery 17 on steroids". At first glance it IS a Montgomery 17, but climb aboard and you can see the differences quickly. Centerboard winch to raise the newly ballasted board, no jib winches on the cockpit coaming - all on the cabintop to allow the new tight sheeting angle, light carbon fiber you can feel as you raise the locker covers in the cockpit, resulting in 2 - 3 hundred pounds overall weight reduction. Open plan below, no compression post, no quarter berths, plenty of room, although slightly shorter and narrower than the M17. Too bad that the full rig wasn't up so we could see the new 7/8ths setup. Best of luck to Sal and Gail. Looks like a winner! Rick Davies M17 #633 Lynne L On Fri, Oct 8, 2010 at 8:57 PM, <tommyval@aol.com> wrote:

Rick, et all: Are there any links to photos? I googled the Sage, but got no hits. Steve On Oct 8, 2010, at 7:59 PM, Rick Davies wrote:

I believe that the boat I saw yesterday is one of two under construction, neither of them finished, so there's probably nothing to take "publicity" pictures of yet. I'm going to keep trying the Sage Marine website, which isn't up yet. Rick M17 #633 Lynne L On Fri, Oct 8, 2010 at 11:19 PM, Steve and Diana Parsons <sparsons@canby.com

Who will manufacture the Sage 17, and when will it be available? Also, when will pictures and specs be published? Just curious. ----- Original Message ----- From: <tommyval@aol.com> To: <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Friday, October 08, 2010 8:57 PM Subject: M_Boats: Sage 17

Hey Clarence, how are you guys doing? Sage Marine out of Golden Co will be making the boat, first one is just about done and I believe Jerry will be sailing her in the Havasu event. Don't now when the web site will be up but I would hope it will be ready not to far down the road. I'm sure the web pics will be nice but why not come out to Havasu and see her first hand. It would be nice to see you guys again Take care Gary Valetti -----Original Message----- From: Clarence K. Hi folks, stopped by the Sage site and spoke to Sal and his wife yesterday at the show. Neat boat. Should have taken pictures but I did not... Looks every bit like an M-17(to my eye) with of course some changes. A little difficult to picture the interior at its present state of finish with no interior liner. I did sit in the seat and had head room for my 6'2" frame! The boat on display is all grey. Hull and deck. Not my personal favorite color but Sal said that they are going to add a blue stripes which may make it pop more. It was also in need of a wash (but I took my shoes off anyway to climb the ladder and go aboard). Anyway, it looks like it should be the usual high quality that I have experienced from other Jerry Montgomery boats in my M-15, M-17 and current M-23. And it looks like it is a very well thought out design. Probably take some time before it is ready to have final pictures taken. Sal said that the hull and deck were just mated a week ago. He also said that he has no plans to make a larger 23ish size boat. I just had to ask. I think the thing that impressed me the most being an engineer is the sheer scale of what it must take to design and build this boat. To be able to meld the technical and creative abilities to produce the design, molds and ultimately the hull, deck liner and parts is just absolutely amazing. I work with teams of folks that do this every day and I am in awe that Jerry has been able to do this with such a fantastic result. Good on you Jerry! Interesting discussion about current M-23's under construction. Guess I am glad I am working on rehabing a 1978 M-23. I go out to Golden CO a few times a winter to go skiing and visit my son in grad school there. Maybe I can jigger an invite to see the factory.
