Dear Montgomery Owners and Enthusiasts, It is official… The Montgomery Sailboat Owners Group Photo Site www.MSOGPhotoSite.com <http://www.msogphotosite.com/> has a new owner. I am not at liberty to give details at the moment; however I can assure everyone, the Photo Site will stay on the Internet and may include periodic updates as well as keep most of the content already published. You Monty people are so spoiled ;-} During the next few months I will transform the Maintenance and Modifications albums into PDF, making them easier to view, print and download. As for me, I'm going to go digging in the dirt for that butter yellow Gold. I have the fever bad. In part due to finding over 3 ounces in one patch near the Scott River in Northern California in 25-30 actual hours of work (took me three weeks to do that 30 hours). I know this is not the place, but if you want to see how it's done visit one of the clubs I belong to: www.goldgold.com the Nor Cal area is some of the most remote and pretty areas in CA. Fair Winds and Following Seas; the MSOG and Montgomery Boat (all of them) will always be in my heart and thoughts. Thanks for all the past support… see you all later; I'm going to go play in the dirt. Bill (ex USN 2nd class Petty Officer and ex Webmaster of the Photo Site - Full time RV'r and fun seeker)
Hi Bill, Thanks for all your excellent work on the Monty-website. It is always a pleasure to go there and to look at all the pictures and comments that you so carefully assembled. Happy and successful gold digging........ How are you going to do it? Panning in streams? Build a sluice? Surface excavating? Use a drag line? Mining? ....or does one catch salmon that have ingested gold nuggets? Connie Bill Lamica wrote:

Thanks for the kind words Connie. The favored method for old guys is the metal detector and that been very good to me. I also have a stream sluice, highbanker and a bunch of other stuff. But the latter is real hard work. I posted a nice photo on the Trailer Sailor Montgomery forums. A bunch of nuggets laying on the detector search coil. Pretty stuff if you are into gold. One never knows; the next hole in the ground could have twice that much in it! But I guess that's why it's fun to look. That, and it's $800.00 an ounce at the moment. Hi Connie, Thought I'd better answer so no one pulls up stakes and goes out after gold. I'm retired and do not need a paycheck from prospecting. However, it is very nice to have it pay for equipment and expenses, makes it feel worthwhile. Lots of folks look for gold and only a few find it. Myself, I spent a couple of months learning and sampling various areas (that's how it's done) and found some color, but no nuggets. Then I got lucky and found a patch. I've collected over 30 nuggets out of an area 50' X 20' I'll do a little more digging in that area, but think I did a pretty good job of it. When that patch plays out, I'll go back to sampling. You never know, the next hole may have a hundred pound nugget at the bottom and that is the lure of prospecting. The unknown, the hope of a large strike, that's what causes Gold Fever. Usually the ones who find good values are the people who do not get discouraged week after week of meager finds. I'm there for the out of doors, the scenery, the fresh air, the hard work and easy to fall asleep nights. Every Saturday evening is a potluck where we all show off our cooking talent and that weeks finds before locking them away. You are absolutely right; for a retired guy it's great. I really cannot ask for much more... I do not think I'd chance it for making a living. Bill On 11/23/08, chbenneck@sbcglobal.net <chbenneck@sbcglobal.net> wrote:

Bill, Just wanted to add to the chorus of thank-yous. The photo site has been a great resource for Monty newbies like me. Your time and effort have been greatly appreciated. As for gold fever, I just keep hearing that line from "Treasure of the Sierra Madre": "Badges? We don't have no badges. We don't need no stinking badges!" Hey Jim, thanks back to you a couple of times. One for the Kudos and second I had forgotten the name of the movie... I remember that scene well. Bones, Funny thing about gold. In some areas, the purity is very good and that butter yellow color just pops. That's the first revelation a new prospector has... Hey, it really does look like gold! Where's some more? Somehow makes you feel like a kid again, full of wonderment. Bill On 11/25/08, James Poulakis <picfo@comcast.net> wrote:
