I changed the sliding gooseneck mount to a fixed mount. I did it primarily because the boomkicker works better if the boom is fixed. When I reef lower sail and just eye ball the reef cringle above the boom. Then I make up the jiffy reefing. I have a dinghy mainsheet attached at the mast base with a hook on the other end. I hook the reef cringle and tension in until the sail looks right.

On my M17 some of the pop rivets holding eye straps for reefing lines stop the gooseneck from sliding down below where they are. Which luckily is about the proper boom height, as the main is just an inch or two from topping out when fully hoisted. I need to put in a proper downhaul/cunningham, but meanwhile I do have a line from eye on bottom of gooseneck to a downhaul cleat below on mast, which prevents the gooseneck from sliding up. One nice thing about having the sliding gooseneck is you can slide it above the slot when you want it out of the wayfor overnights or such. In particular I raise it higher for a boom tent/canopy/tarp thing for more headroom.
