Santa gave me a Std Horizon HX-851 a few years ago. Comes with two rechargeable Li-Ion batteries, plus a third battery pack that takes a few AAA batteries. I figure that all gives me at least 30 hours of On time. I bring it along on mutli-day trips for emergencies, backup NOAA Wx, bridge openings, and if I need to hear conversation, there's always the chitchat amongst the commercial fisherman in the 60s channels. As someone else noted, the rudimentary GPS feature seems a bit unnecessary. - Brad
Clarification: GPS on a handheld VHF is required if you want to have DSC (digital selective calling) for use in an emergency. You press the emergency button and your location is sent along with the emergency signal. :: Dave Scobie :: M6'8" #650 :: Baba 30 #233 DEJA VU :: SV SWALLOW - sv-swallow.com :: former owner M17 #375 SWEET PEA - m17-375.com :: former owner M15 #288 SCRED - m15namedscred.wordpress.com <<-- new site!
