trunk liner separation repair on Havasumotgomerys
I have just completed a keel trunk liner repair to Dauntless almost identically to the way that Howard described doing it. If your interested in it you can check out the repair process on www.havasumontgomerys.funtigo.com Go to the Bottom/blister/swing keel page and scroll to the bottom f the page until you find the 5/14/06 update. Hard to believe I described anything that looks as nice as that! I'm thinking this boat really, really lucked out when it found a new home. Hard to tell from this far away, but from what I can see, the quality of the work done on everything has been as good or better than you could have hired done, and you have saved yourself thousands. Good trick on the plastic cup. If you get away from using West System Epoxy and go to the 2:1 mixes (half the cost), a technique to try is to use cheap plastic Solo cups from Wally World. One cup is set inside the other. You pour a calibrated amount of water into the inside cup and mark the level on the outside cup. Then half that amount is added to the inside cup and again, the outside cup is marked. Then anytime you want to mix epoxy, you put a blank cup inside the marked calibrated cup and fill to the lines. The mix cup can then be tossed and the calibrated cup is saved and used over and over. BTW, with the 2:1 mixes you can go as low as 7.5 ml batches....about 1 teaspoon. Comes in handy for small jobs. I cannot imagine trying to work with epoxy at those temps. It would go off in my face. Howard
