Hi Steve, Yes it's quite flat. My guestimate is that it is about 1/2 inch high. If you use cockpit cushions, you'll never notice the height difference............ Of course, the hatch is all the way aft, and when I'm sailing I like to sit as far forward in the cockpit as I can, so I am sitting on the regular cockpit surface: on a cushion! Connie
