You do not need to use a yahoo e-mail address for a yahoo group. You do need to create a yahoo ID to log into Yahoo services, but then you can add any other e-mail accounts to your profile and use any one of them to get mail from a given group.
I am a member of about half a dozen yahoo groups but don't use my yahoo login/e-mail address for any of them, I use this address.
The yahoo group says it's only for an owner registry and nothing else. So far that appears true - there are no messages, and photos are not enabled.
I think it would be good to enable photos on the yahoo group so there would be someplace to put pics and albums of pics. A link to those relevant to a post here could be included in the post.
Forums, like this mailman list, don't have any individual photo or photo album capability. Pics are specific to a forum post so one has to go searching through the forum. There can be a photo/album repository such as a yahoo group and also this list. Can be both-and, doesn't have to be either-or.
I'm not clear what the MSOG site update will be, let's see what happens. Can you say more - what platform are you upgrading to, will it be self-subscribe & self-manage one's own content?

Thanks John,
Yes I have been on the net since around 1995 or so too and there has been a lot of changes. I already have a yahoo ID sign on etc. I did it so long ago that the default email in there is my often-not-used yahoo mail account. Gotta change it but it does keep my main email somewhat uncluttered I guess (point/counter point SNL sketch comedy). Boy can they get outta hand...numbers of emails I mean.
I have been on the Nor'Sea group for many years over there and is sure is nice to have photos/photo albums. It made my full restoration on the NS 27 easier. The Monty FD restoration was more difficult without this type of resource for sure.
I know the yahoo owners site is not currently active and looks like it never was more than a list but it is there and could be used for the purposes we're looking for.
Just some thoughts for you guys who are using this forum more regularly. Sounds like you're aware of that pre-established yahoo group already. I'll wait to see what shakes loose for a place for current and future photos!
Best to all, Tim J

My M17 (1976) had a wire like that (embedded in the cabin overhead). If I recall correctly, it ran forward to the aft edge of the forward hatch, followed that edge a bit and then emerged to be connected to a thru-deck connector in the vicinity of the mast step. In my case, I believe it was used for an anchor light.

Jazzy, Does your boat have the galley on the port side just aft of the v-berth? My 1977 model does. While digging around for wires to use that are embedded in the fiberglass layup at the factory I found several that were bunched underneath the galley. I had to lie on my back, folded double on the cabin floor to peer up and under the sink when I discovered them. All my wires led to a small busbar on the port side aft of the sink accessible from the cockpit portside locker. Not a handy set up. I have since moved all the wiring to the more conventional layout of on the bulkhead at the foot of the v-berth. Good luck with your hunting. I assume you have one of those auto circuit tracers which come with a battery in the handle, a wire at one end with an alligator clip and a sharp probe at the other end. It is a continuity tester and is useful for figuring out which wire popping out of where goes to what. Prior to re-tooling in 81 we laminated the wire in with frabbergrass to several locations, including the bow and stern lights. After retooling we ran all wires from the switch panel, up the mast compression post and put a tricolor at the masthead and the cabin light right next to the post. Worked out great and much easier to work on. If I was messing around with an old boat, I'd just copy the new setup and forget about the embedded wires.
I know that a few of the embedded wires got drilled thru when installing aftermarket deck hardware.

Thanks, Jerry, for that last statement. I used the existing wires wherever possible but now if they don't work I will realize I may have drilled through one while mounting additional hardware. Any ideas on how to string new wires and attaching them to the fiberglass overhead and avoiding having them look like phone wires strung from pole to pole?

Your looking from the v berth out towards the companion way at the "ceiling" over the sink...the blue and green wire that feeds that little bus bar goes into the fiberglass there. I can't for the life of me find the other end. The little bus bar is unpowered at the moment and the blue/green feeds it. On a positive note...stern light is now working from panel for the first time in forever like the nav light! Whoohooo!

Tom B < https://www.avast.com/sig-email?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaig...

I have been on the 'net since back when it was a small, mostly friendly, completely non-commercial virtual space and the world wide web was not quite invented yet. Some things have changed a lot, and some have not at all...;-)

Whoohooo!

Tom B < https://www.avast.com/sig-email?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaig...

A moderator system would be good so if there is a problem with a post/user a group can make decisions instead of an individual (I've done such a thing with forums I've moderated for 10+ years).

I agree with the Yahoo site. It works well for the NorSea owners group (me included). The Montgomery Owners site exists there already. It was previously set up by Sean Mulligan (sp?) from Lake Havasu, AZ. It is a pain that all the communication goes through the yahoo mail server. That means it's practically the only mail I get from yahoo and I have to check it separately from my gmail.
I have been on the 'net since back when it was a small, mostly friendly, completely non-commercial virtual space and the world wide web was not quite invented yet. Some things have changed a lot, and some have not at all...;-)

Whoohooo!

Tom B <

I can add moderators to the Mboat section. Create new subforums (ie, for each boat type). The software will host photos and document attachments (videos are still best done on YouTube and linked to a post in the forum).
A moderator system would be good so if there is a problem with a post/user a group can make decisions instead of an individual (I've done such a thing with forums I've moderated for 10+ years).

Tom B <

I Like the idea keeping the listserv, I've enjoyed it for many years, through 2 M-17s. I don't mind the addition of a photosite, but I don't want it to detract from this community. My $.02.
