Hi All, I keep my M17 "Spoonful" at the Navy Rec. Ctr. in Solomons, Md. I've always thought a great cruise on the Bay would be to put in the Norfolk, Va. area and spend a week or 10 days broad reaching up the Bay, going back and forth from the western shore and the eastern shore...easy sailing and the winds are usually from the south to southeast. I like the end of May or early June as it's not too hot and winds are usually 10-15kts. Only trouble is having to go back to retrieve the vehicle & trailer... Reading about the interest in a Bay Cruise and the security concern for long term storage of vehicles with trailers in a ramp parking lot made me realize that it's hard to find a more secure facility than one that's gated and guarded by Marines (I always thank them for their service when I go in) who will NOT let you in unless you have a military ID card or a sponsor with one and a visitors pass. I got in touch with the marina manager and he said he couldn't do 20 boats but could handle 10 or 12. He said he wasn't sure about cost to store but said it would only be around $1 or $2 dollars a day. My thought was to launch in the Norfolk area, get a slip or anchor out with one guy to "keep watch" on the boats, drive vehicles & trailers up to Solomons,Md (about a 4.5 hrs. drive) and all come back in a rental passenger van...Don't know the cost for one day but split up it shouldn't be too bad... Having said all that, I'm not sure I could make the cruise - my tow vehicle now has 360,000 miles on it (!!!!) and job situation might change...But, I'd be happy to sponsor and get a pass for any Monty owners who are interested in this.... Happy Holiday's To Everyone, Greg M17 "Spoonful"
