Perhaps it's just preference? You can walk to town, take the bus or drive. All ways get to town. The tiller clutch is very convenient for some. just lift a finger. All good, just different. sal In a message dated 8/1/2012 7:13:04 A.M. Mountain Daylight Time, mackwarner007@gmail.com writes: I guess I just don't get it. Any time I wanted to lock the tiller down I used a clover hitch around the tiller and cleated off each end. Easy to adjust on the fly and holds firm.
I agree with sal, it's a matter of individual preference. I prefer inexpensive yet elegant--if I come up with a reliable approach of my own devising, that's for me. Plus I'll always spend $10 rather than $80 (with a Clove Hitch it's surely even less expensive...), which is roughly the cost difference between my homemade solution and the tiller clutch. The tiller clutch is probably a lovely device. More power to those who choose it. t On Wed, Aug 1, 2012 at 7:36 AM, <SALGLESSER@aol.com> wrote:

You're the expert old man (by the way, happy birthday last month). If chewing gum does the trick we're probably talking pennies, not dollars. t On Wed, Aug 1, 2012 at 8:43 AM, jerry montgomery <jerry@jerrymontgomery.org> wrote:

The TillerClutch allows just a quick flick to hold the tiller at any angle. Just wonderful and very dynamic even with my hand full time on the tiller. You get used to the quick flick and hold when close hauled etc. Very satisfying sensation of the device itself. Hard to describe. Try it, you'll love it!
