Sailors - I am looking for all the guidance I can get, and pictures would be soooo helpful. I was lucky enough to get my hands on an M23 last season, and I restored it over the winter with my dad which was a lot of work, but in the end, she is a beautiful boat and so much fun to sail. It has been very warm in MN and I am thinking about throwing it in the sling for a day or two at the yard she is located at. This would be on thurs or Friday of this week. Spring time will be very busy and harder to do this at the yard, so I am thinking that now is the time. Wondering if anyone can help with pics and instructions on the keel. She has not been lowered in three years and will not go down. I want to change out and fix whatever is needed and will only have a day or two in the sling. I am mechanical but know nothing about this project. Josh Bloom Principal B.C.R.E. Josh: the best information on getting the board out and working on the keel/board were shared by Sean Mulligan. Sad to say that all his information is now gone from the www. the lifting mech for the VERY VERY VERY heavy board is different, but the project is similar to what is done to repair a cast iron M17 centerboard and keel. http://msogphotosite.com/Scripts/StoryTechnical/storytechnicaldetail.php?id=... http://msogphotosite.com/Scripts/StoryTechnical/storytechnicaldetail.php?id=... http://msogphotosite.com/Scripts/StoryTechnical/storytechnicaldetail.php?id=... http://msogphotosite.com/Scripts/StoryTechnical/storytechnicaldetail.php?id=... there are list members that have worked with their M17 and M23 to repair a stuck centerboard. i hope they will provide information/feedback. the BIG question is: centerboard stuck from it rusting? centerboard stuck from keel ballast rusting? stuck from both centerboard and keel rusting? the project isn't a 'couple of days. if the 'stuckness' is just the board's rust you have a week or two to recondition the board. the keel ballast rusting ... well that is a multi-month effort (at best IMO). :: Dave Scobie :: former M15 owner #288 - http://www.freewebs.com/m15-name-scred :: M17 #375 SWEET PEA - http://www.m17-375.webs.com :: Sage 17 #1 - AIR BORN - http://sagemarine.us/sage_17.html :: Sage 15 sloop #001 - ASOLARE - http://sagemarine.us/sage_15.html :: SageCat #000 - SAGECAT - http://sagemarine.us/sagecat.html On Mon, Nov 7, 2016 at 8:09 AM, Josh Bloom <josh@bloomcommercial.com> wrote:

Take a look, here are some photos from Sean's project on the 17. Don't have any of the 23 he used to have. Hi Josh my M-23 can to me with the keel stuck. Some of the photos I have from pounding my board down are at https://photos.google.com/u/1/album/AF1QipMgYqfHdMHQJga3yQFJbl7GzQFz0AI_XnDK... My board had rusted and the scale kept if stuck but good in the slot. I spend weeks trying to work it down, pounded from the top after removing the winch and eventually drilling a hole in the board so I could insert a rod and pound on it with a 5# and 10# sledge. Just so you know, the board is very heavy/dangerous. So please be careful. I do wish you very good luck but it may take some time to get your board free. After getting the board down you can see that I got the board soda blasted and immediately coated with barrier coat. Has worked great for almost a decade now. Please let me know if I can help at all. Hi guys sorry I did not see this post about the photo site earlier. Was at the boat yesterday. https://photos.google.com/u/1/album/AF1QipMgYqfHdMHQJga3yQFJbl7GzQFz0AI_XnDK... is what my browser points to so I can view the photos but obviously this is not working. Very sorry about that. I am very much a neophyte in web permissions and this site is very old, started in Picasa and was transferred to google photos when google bought Picasa but not without issues. Can someone suggest a good site to move the photos to? I liked that in Picasa I could put a description with each photo. Thanks Robbin On 11/11/2016 3:03 PM, John Schinnerer wrote:

Wow, Robbin, all the work! Nicely done too. What was the "spackle" you used for your non-skid? I used a salt shaker to shake sifted sand into wet Brightside deck paint on my 17. I ended up doing a lot of what you accomplished on your 23, bow to stern. I don't think I would tackle a 23.
