And no tides! I skippered a small (7.5 m) boat in the Archipelago last year. It is a fantastic area in which to sail. Connie is right about the polite behavior of the boaters. But then, the Swedes are a very civilized people. cheers- Shawn Boles Grey Mist (M17 #276 1978) -----Original Message----- From: chbenneck@juno.com [mailto:chbenneck@juno.com] Sent: Tuesday, May 04, 2004 10:25 AM To: montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com Subject: Re: M_Boats: M-17 aux. motor--rant Hi Giles, Reminds me of the Thursday afternoon boat traffic jam heading out from Stockholm to the Archipelago and the islands. There is a narrow slot that all traffic bound in one direction has to pass, and the last time I was there, we were sailing a Folkboat - no power, - and tacking our way through the narrows. Meanwhile the power boaters were trying to maneuver around us to get by and pass us, but as we reached the edge of the channel and tacked again, the power boaters would have to stop to let us pass................ Something to see and experience. Bow to stern boats all expertly managed; everyone polite; rules of the road carefully followed.................. Fun!
