Pathogens and the law
OK, so it seems pretty obvious that we're not going to be causing any environmental damage by Freeing Willy over the side. But what I'm really more interested in is the law. If I'm anchored in some cove for the night and hear the call of nature, will I be in placing myself in jeopardy should the county sheriff come cruising by while I'm flushing my bilge? Not much chance of that, I know. But all things being equal, I'd just as soon follow the regulations, if there are any. So does anybody know if there are any maritime laws about venting bodily fluids into inland waters, and if so, where one might go to get a look at them? Is this sort of thing different from state to state, or do the Feds have jurisdiction over my personal plumbing? Sorry if this is straying far afield from the usual M-Boats discussions. But this is something I've wondered about, especially on those days when the marina is a long way upwind. David =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= David W.
