Hi M15 owners: When motoring with my M15, there is a loud vibrating noise{racket}. I've tried to locate its origin but no luck. Could it be the centerboard rattling? Thanks for any clues. Harry Elmslie
Harry, I'm trying to think what could rattle on an M15 while motoring. One thing you could do to check the centerboard would be to raise or lower it and see if the noise changes. Also, you could pull up on the centerboard pendent with a steady pressure and hold it there, and see if the noise changes. It is normal for the centerboard to have some play in the centerboard cavity. Pulling up on the pendent would take-out most of the play. On our M15 I recall the adjustable motor mount and boarding ladder also had some rattle to them. It seems like the vibration of the outboard at low engine speeds (especially a 4-stroke) would rattle most anything rattleable. I often raise or lower the motor speed slightly to take out some of the vibration echoing through the boat. Stressed out at work, finally had enough and told the boss I was taking the rest of the week off and heading off to Lake Michigan. Kids start school next week so I'm dragging my 14 year old son along. And I mean dragging. He does not want to go, but at this point I get enough grief at work and I don't care. He is going and he WILL have fun. I will be somewhat illegal as I don't have my registration number on my hull (CALLING BOB EGG! HELLO!!!), but I hope to talk my way out of any serious situation. Extremely stressful.? And I am in the middle of a divorce with the moving day scheduled for?August 30th & 31st.? The next day?I go for a 3 day cruise on the Chesapeake Bay with my son.? ?? Well Skip, it appears you got the most important thing in the divorce settlement... the Monty! I divorced three years ago and had to decide between my Porsche Boxster and my M-17. I chose the boat... it didn't need $1000 worth of tires every year, the insurance is comparatively non-existent, i have NEVER gotten a speeding ticket while sailing (even in 20-knot winds) and the new love of my life would much rather sail than drive around in a go-cart (have you ever tried sleeping in a two-seater sports car?).
