Santa Claus brought me a Honda 2 HP long shaft. Best Christmas present ever. What are you skippers using to mount the motor to the transom? I have the old fixed mount on the Pelican. Merry Christmas Captain James Albert Sadler skipper sailing vessel Pelican M-15 jimsadler@jascopacific.com
my 1984 fixed mount works fine with the honda 2HP long-shaft (1985 model). just a few centimeters of space when the engine is tilted up, but 'that is all you need.' the prop will drag a bit when on a port tack. if i go on the foredeck when the engine is running it will cause the prop to cavitate (i'm 200+ lbs). dave scobie M15 #288, not yet named Jim Sadler <jimsadler@jascopacific.com> wrote: Santa Claus brought me a Honda 2 HP long shaft. The standard mount works fine if you don't want to go to something that lifts. I used to have to monkey around to to get it to lock in the stowed position...turn it backwards to get the clearance to lock, then turned it sideways (correct side down) to get a bit more clearance. As Dave said, the business end will drag a little on...starboard tack. t
Jim, That certainly is a very nice Christmas present. I also have a 2 hp Honda 4 stroke on M15 #310 - fixed motor mount. This Honda engine will not tip forward to the latch position unless you twist the head counter clockwise as you tilt it forward. There may be just enough room to engage and disengage the latch but you will have to try it. I bolted on a 1 1/2" thick ( 2 laminated slabs of 3/4 Marine ply) to the existing mount but extended the height about 2 1/2". The motor clamps on to the extended height section which raises the prop slightly so it doesn't drag as much and is easier to tilt and release the engine. If you sail in choppy waves a lot, the tilt lock will bounce on the cast portion of the tilt mechanism and scrape the metal off so it will not lock. I use a bungee cord with hooks to tilt the engine a little farther and keep the pressure off of the tilt lock mechanism.
