Only subscribed email addresses can post to the mailing list, view the archives, or view the membership roster. That helps keep the spam out. I know that some of you have two email addresses that you'd like to be able to post with, but don't want to receive two copies of list mail. Among a multitude of options you can configure about your subscription, one is called Mail Delivery. Disabling mail delivery keeps the email address subscribed, but posts are not sent to it. Also useful if you'll be on vacation and don't want a pile of messages waiting for you when you get back.
