I thought I'd pass this info along. I suspect you already know all of this, but I find it interesting to note the difference between shrouds and stays! Shrouds are rigging, line or wire, that are on port and starboard sides and support the mast. It is redundant to say "side shroud". A backstay is a line or wire extending from the top of the mast to the stern. A forestay is a line or wire that runs from a point below the top of the mast to the stemhead fitting on the bow. A headstay runs from the top of the mast to the stemhead fitting.
