Talking about the 2000 year vintages. What is the ideal height of the trailer ball from grade. New Outback and trying to see if I need to reverse the ball on my extension. So anybody that has a boat on trailer if you can confirm what is the tongue height off grade that makes it a nice straight connection to the hitch of the car. Thanks Smiley M15 #616 . Rule of thumb - trailer frame is level. :: Dave Scobie On Sep 10, 2015 4:14 PM, "Karen & Smiley" <magoo252@comcast.net> wrote:

Agree that frame height (give or take a bit) is what you should try to achieve. Crucially important, however, is tongue weight. Too little and you get a lot of "sway" back and forth in the trailer at higher speed. Too much and you place a lot of strain on your car and the trailer. There is a formula for this, but if you have a stock trailer made for the boat you should be fine. If you find it swaying on the road, do whatever you can to add a bit of weight near the ball.
